I am not aware of the trend you have mentioned, but perhaps someone else can shed some light on this mystery
To my limited knowledge, KAF 16003 has higher QE and well depth than KAI 11002 becuse the latter is interline sensor. There is a thread on this website discussing some differences between different CCDs -
