Hi Russ - I am just thinking ahead for a few years - the ideal planetary scope for me is a short focal length 20" either as a dobsonian or something light weight that I can mount on a EQ mount like an EQ8 or Titan etc.

I am more interested in people's view of these new design aluminium/carbon fiber dobsonians which appear to be updated designs to the traditional dobsonians and whether they offer good stability. Some similar to the Doc Telescopes design are not getting great reviews, e.g. GSO, Hubble Optics, Edmund Scientific etc. but Doc Telescopes look very innovative and could be at another level.
