Maybe not as good but still should be ok.
From memory Phil (acropolite) isn't that happy with the 16-35, but I'm very happy with it.
If you can stretch the budget I'd recommend the 16-35 as a good wide variable on the 5DII.
But were possible I prefer a prime over variable.
