Its a way out of town, but I stayed at Pilliga Pottery a month or so back. There is a good opening there out the back of the guest house bit, grassy paddocks all over, there are some lights around, but the sky was amazing. The drive back is mostly on the highway (30mins or so), but with 10km of dirt thrown in at the pottery end. Its a nice place to stay, too, if you're open to changing your mind about being in town
