Don't you use live view for focusing? Use it once and you'll never use the viewfinder again. Or use a laptop and download the focus images just like you were using a dedicated CCD camera.
I think live preview was standard since the 40D.
ISO12800 sounds wild. I wonder if its useful or just full of noise for astroimaging.
