If the power supply is rated at 6V, there is no reason for it to fry. Saying that you could "Fry" it, would apply to anything that has a external power supply (Including original manufacturers).
The rating on the input is 6V, so as long as you dont get anything over 6V, your fine.

Its up to you, and what your willing to do.
Same as laptop chargers, get original and cost you over 150 smakaroos, but from a local electronics shope, around $50 and works perfectly.

Oh yeah, where do you think pentax gets its supplies from, designed and built in China. Just add their badge to it.
