After using SCTs for a while, I bought this refractor to get some basic experience with wide-field astronomy and also get a scope that could do double-duty viewing whales, shipping and Bass Strait oil rigs from my lounge room.
It is and achro so I didn’t expect anything too exciting but I have been very surprised with clear, sharp viewing, both astronomically and terrestrially.
The included AZ3 mount has both coarse and fine adjustment on both axes and provides great stability.
I have now upgraded to an Apochromatic refractor, so this great is scope up for sale.
Perfect for beginner, or more experienced astronomer as a travel scope, it features 120mm diam, 600mm focal length, fast f/5 optics that give exciting rich field astronomical views. It can provide excellent vistas of star fields, clusters, nebulae, galaxies, planets and the Moon with 38% more light gathering than the smaller SW 102/500.
