I did the Gary Honis 550D filter removal as per
http://dslrmodifications.com/rebelmod450d4.html . I only removed the IR cut filter - its pretty straight forward with his excellent instructions. I didn't get a DSLR specific UV/IR filter, just used a 2" filter in my scope - so no glueing with mine.
But I wasn't brave enough to do the cold finger mod. Might have reduced the noise in this pic from a warm Dec 2017 night
