Start off with a decent DSLR as it can be used for both astro and terrestial. Bang for buck you cannot go past the much larger sensors on the DSLR's.
If then you find you have outgrown the DSLR for astro you will have to spend a rather large amount of money to get a dedicated cooled astro camera with anywhere the sensor size of the DSLR. Never mind the cost of filters etc.
