I use the free camera software canon autostitch with good results on DSO's & the moon. I have mentioned this before in the forums , it's simple to use after adjusting the focal length settings (these bear no relation to the real focal length) & scanning settings . These are easy to experiment with as the actual combination of pictures into the mosaic takes a few seconds. It's ridiculously simple to use and any artifacts can be removed in Photoshop .
