at first I had a mental image of two robins with a camera each not two camera bodies.

Since "my" D80 is actually my wife's perhaps i should invest in my own DSLR. Your comments on dropping cameras and sensor dust may give me the excuse i need.
My wife is always worried when I have the camera in my hand or on the tripod- I am a bit clumsy...
