Great sketch Michael! However, the 'ring' is outside that again. Your description pretty much fitted what I saw, maybe a bit more elongated than you have. The key is the little star on the edge - it sits on the edge of the dimmer part of the inner, brighter galaxy structure. Ie you see the bright central core, and then the dimmer region out to the little star - the ring (which I couldn't see) is further out again. If that makes sense!!
