I too started out with an E-Bay scope and can still remember the first views of Jupiter. Fantastic. And no thanks to that useless finder scope that came with it.
My only suggestion with regards to your finderscope mount - paint it black - or white.
Careful though. Once you start modding your scopes, it's hard to stop.
