I tend not to watch much media (certainly zero television) but can understand what you're saying about old movies.
I feel that the storytelling / writing / acting quality in the old films is far ahead of what's produced today. Most of today's films are dumbed-down tripe that rely far too much on flashy special effects and CGI, rather than telling a compelling story.
