I think you are onto a good idea here. I would choose though the EQ3 Pro purely for the ST4 port, add a Celestron NexGuider on a 50mm guide scope and you could presumably go PC less for the night with a DSLR.
As you say PA becomes an issue at anything greater than about 100mm
