And, no, unless otherwise stated, you can't really pop a hood from a different lens on, for a couple of reasons. The thread/lock/release mechanism is different and you may end up with vignetting from the hood as it may protrude too far into the field of view.
I think all L-series lenses come with their own hood.

I'll off load the other hood.The service center only gave six months
warranty on work on 17-55 and at nearly $900,and a seven year old lens
just did not make sense getting it repaired at all.A pro lens for less and twelve months warranty was much more appealing.
