Both my Truss type scopes are alum poled. Serrurier design tries to balance any deflection. Biggest issue was I needed to stiffen my UTA assembly. Trying or too much weight reduction.

I've used an Astronomik CLS, means longer exposure times to compensate for the blocked photons but works ok for Sodium and Mercury vapour lighting. May depend if your local lighting is being upgraded...
