I have the same camera and don't find it bad at all for the newton rings, they tend to appear more when using a barlow for me but without one they are rarely an issue....

In this case I used the 'photomerge' option in photoshop CS5. It does not always work for me and if it doesn't then MS ICE will normally stitch it.
This time photomerge worked fine...

I managed to fire off a mosaic yesterday as it was an unexpected clear day, I was getting a lot of drift but it didn't prove to be fatal in the end.

This pic was 22 panels taken with a DMK41...
