Did any one see this meteor . My neice saw it the other night in Townsville and asked me about it. We were outside but did not see it in Mackay. Here is a news link. http://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/article/2012/11/23/370570_news.html

Unfortunately I'm in Melbourne but would have loved to have seen it. Though would have probably given a little fright.
Sounds like it was a ripper!!

We astronomers tend to spend a lot of time outside at night and are bound to see a really good shooting star at some stage. I once saw one fly over and explode behind a mountain range 100 kms away. It lit the range up like daylight. We thought it was an atomic bomb or something weird had happened. It was in the papers the next day, seen 150 kms away and exploded over the ocean.

I think I may have heard this. It was at the right time and I heard a loud bang that sounded "different". I was trying to sleep at the time. Or it could have been something else. ;)
