I see that a certain user is posting to get his post count up with nice photo  all the time.
A you say something constructive or B you say nothing.
I won't say a name but it is very clear who does it.
Really i don't care but it is just annoying to see this happening :(

I assume you are taking a shot at me, Martin.
Firstly, I wasn't aware post counts meant anything. They don't to me!
Secondly, my main interest in astronomy is astro-photography-hence I look at all the photos on this site, and I feel it is only polite to compliment the poster on their work-and that is saying something constructive.
Thirdly, maybe you should just chill out!:)

It would be worse if you posted a pic and no one made a comment. Its always good to have a reply in a forum.

On average about one in ten to one in twenty bother to post a comment on an image that someone has spent as much ability and time as they can muster into acquiring it. They will only learn and be motivated by comments posted which I always invite (good or bad). Even a short comment acknowledges that they have seen and appreciated the image - I often wonder about the other nine to nineteen people, can they do better?
But it's up to you if you want to contribute
Just my 2c , Allan

Not sure there's any problem with Larry commenting positively on lots of photos. Doesn't hurt anyone, and I'm sure the photographers like to know that people are looking at and enjoying their pictures. Keep enjoying the photos Larry!

What would be good for the site is a thanks button, you can thank them for the post, -if you like there photo etc ,it's quik & you don't have to post..some sites have them

You are right, sometimes i see a photo or something that is explained well but doesn't need a reply but just a thanks.

Thank you Laurie, and i just posted this to see how people think about others posting very short comments without critique.
Sometimes it is good to stir the pot a bit to get a reaction

I agree with the suggestion of a "thanks" button. It would be a good way of showing appreciation of someones work without having to actually post.
Members such as I are not qualified to critique the work of most of the imagers in this forum, but I do like to show appreciation of their work.
Cheers, Martin:)

Can you wait until I reach 1000 posts before introducing this change??? :P

I with you Laurie, who cares about counts, it isn't a constant.....or is it? If so, what is the prize

I though this was a site for general discussion. I certainly enjoy it, I certainly like interacting with fellow amateur astronomers. I get a great chuckle  from some of the comments and I also thing is nice that other respond with comments too, funny or otherwise.

I love IIS :D

So that's why the expansion of the universe is accelerating, the constants change every time someone posts on IIS.

Excuse me Bart, but your post count is stuck on 1940. I think "management" has installed software to try to foil us.This could be big, like go right through to the top. Mmmm, always thought Mikes count looked suspicious.

I don't like this thread for 2 reasons:

- The thread was created with the intention of stirring trouble and getting a reaction
- People are using it to spam

Therefore it's getting locked.
