So this is it. The final race of the season.

Irrespective of what Alonso does, Vettel only needs to finish 4th to win the
championship.

But the hot conditions in Interlagos can take their toll on vehicles.

Last year, F1 fans will recollect Vettel developed a problem with second-gear,
had to turn down the engine, short shift and let Webber pass.

Then only last week we had Mark's RB8 experience an alternator failure on lap 17
in Austin, causing him to DNF.

And as we saw again last week with Alonso third on the podium, his skill and
determination are never to be underestimated.

So anything can happen!

Note that qualifying will take place in the early hours of what will be in Australia
Sunday morning and will show on ONE starting at 02:30 AEDT (NSW, Vic).
Coverage also starts on TEN at 03:00 AEDT (NSW, Vic).

Coverage of the race itself will be on TEN starting at 02:30 AEDT (NSW, Vic)
which is the early hours of this coming Monday morning.

For the benefit of those who might record the event and watch it later after
work, please no spoilers here on IIS!

Should be a good one. Great track, suits the Red Bulls, can get some rain, altitude creates power issues for the cars. Seb should phone it in, but anything could happen.

For Australian viewers, one can also watch full replays of qualifying and the
previous race here on the TEN Sport web site (not available outside Australia) -

Handy to know if you ever miss a session.

Reminder.... Don't post spoilers until perhaps Tuesday. A lot of us recorded it and have day jobs :)

(But I got up and watched it)

Absolutely no spoilers here until Tuesday.

However, for those who have not seen it yet, be prepared for the most exciting, the
most eventful and the most heart-stopping race of the season. (Yes, even better than Abu Dhabi).

For those who don't normally watch F1, then this is the one to watch. It is replayed
tonight on ONE (Monday) at 22:40 AEDT.

I couldn't take many more like that! What a season it's been - who said F1 was boring?

What an end to a great season.

Bring on 2013

Except why couldn't they show it in HD?

Replay started on ONE now.

They normally do qualification in HD and could do the race. I guess it's either audience numbers or licensing. Could be the bean counters reckon why waste the HD channel on F1 when you could use it to rerun some other rubbish that might get more people to watch the adverts?

I preferred ONE when they only did sport. There're enough repeats on the other two already - at least with ONE you knew what you were getting.

The race was rather heartstopping. (I will supress the urge to post spoilers, even though I'd like to vent some thoughts ... but all in all, I think Abu Dhabi was a tad more exciting).

There is an article on cnet.com.au from April 27 2012 that discusses the ONE/Ten
HD/SD F1 coverage issue and providing live coverage for viewers in Adelaide and
Perth -
http://www.cnet.com.au/ten-flips-on-f1-broadcasting-as-webber-joins-chorus-of-concern-339336776.htm

See also http://www.smh.com.au/business/industry-afraid-to-take-the-ball-off-packer-and-murdoch-20110426-1dv00.html
which discusses the sidelining of then "sports channel" ONE HD when Jamie Packer and Lachlan Murdoch bought a chunk of the
Ten network. Sports is a big draw card for pay TV and ONE HD was a thorn in its side.

Good to see Mark Webber pipping up about the coverage woes too

I was on zeebox and made sure to tell network 10 how I felt about the race being on SD.

To be honest I would not mind paying (if we had the choice) for Skybox so I could press the BLUE or RED button and get Onboard views during the race

But we can't look a gift horse in the mouth right?

Great racing, it was very entertaining, looking to the start of the new season but don't forget there's always off season test sessions and time trials.

Carlos, if you think back a few years, we had virtually no coverage of F1, and what we did get was always played in the wee small hours.

ourkind

That's very true Laurie I remember those 11pm starts and the only time there'd be a pre-show was during the Melbourne GP.

Speculation about Vettel passing an SRT under yellows.

Ferrari have protested.

Check out the footage yourself and tell me what you think.

Yes I am an Alonso fan but without giving a biased opinion to me it looks he did pass under yellow therefore Alonso can be the champion this year :)

Manav
29-11-2012, 05:56 PM
its debatable how about one more race to settle the matter. I nominate san marino

mithrandir

Ferrari have only tried protesting because the race finished behind the safety car. Without the safety car packing up the field Vettel would have been far enough ahead of the cars behind him that a 20 sec penalty would not have made enough difference in placings for Alonso to win.

If the marshals and stewards don't require a driver to redress any hypothetical infringement on course, having another team with an axe to grind bring it up later is sour grapes.

Ferrari haven't actually protested though, they don't have to at this stage and it's down to the FIA to decide by tomorrow what their ruling is. I suppose if the FIA don't take any action then Ferrari can maybe lodge a protest. It'll all come down to whether it can be proved that there was a green flag waved on lap four at the marshals' post on the inside of the track after the exit of Turn Three.

I don't know if they can actually prove this to be honest but I bet it'll come down to a marshal's "word" which would be neither here nor there but enough to let the boy prince keep his title.

edit:
Turns out the FIA have said there is no case to answer.

A fantastic track that is missed!

I would like to see them back at the A1 Ring in Austria.

Now known as the Red Bull Ring (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Bull_Ring), after Herr Mateschitz bought and refurbished it.

And at the end of the day it was still one amazing race to watch with so many
compelling moments -

The Ferrari's roaring around the Red Bulls within the space of a couple of
hundred meters at the start.

The Iceman braking late and deciding to exit the track on the right rather than
taking out his ping pong playing mate.

Vettel getting spun around by the collision with Senna and that in car view as the
pack is coming at you doing 200km+ and imagining the rapid train of thought
going through Vettel's head at that moment -
"Please guys don't hit me..."
"Car is not stalled. I have to get around and join the back of the pack now!"
"Hope the car isn't badly damaged".
"... the world championship".

Alonso straying off track (will his chances be over?)

Vettel's amazing charge all the way from the back of the pack passing
cars one my one on a super slippery track (the type of thing
you only can ever do in a video game on the Easy setting).

Adrian Newey looking at that wonderful A3 blow-up of the damage on Vettel's RB8
and analyzing it (images of wind tunnel airflow computations going on in
Newey's head).

It's carbon fiber. It should hold! But will it get worse?
Will the FIA give Vettel the black with orange circle flag?

Grosejean finally doing it to himself and taking a quick route to the barrier.

Webber being KK'd.

Hulkenberg passing a McLaren!

The battle of the McLarens (don't take each other out guys!).

The ebb and flow of the damp weather and what tyre to be on at any time.

The place was like an ice skating rink and Button is on slicks!

The Iceman taking us on the scenic tour of one of the tracks exits -
I can get through here - a dead end!

The forward looking in-camera views coming down the straight with the mist
of the car in front of you giving the most tenuous of visibility yet you are
closing on the car in front fast.

The two Ferrari drivers acting as team mates. The two Red Bull drivers acting as team mates!

Vettel has no radio, pits unexpectantly and watches for what seems like an
eternity as that last guy runs out of the garage with the intermediate tyre
(Red Bull should pay for that team member's gym membership)

Plus many more heart stopping moments.

It's interesting that Newey was once viewed as a designer of fast cars that had the Archilles heel of being fragile. Now, they seem well on the way to being indestructible!

Kimi's off-track jaunt was actually a mid-race break - he was looking for an icecream vendor.:) Yet somehow he still finished in the points (just).

The F1 2m45s Brazil "race edit" video is now available at the F1 web site -
http://www.formula1.com/video/race_edits/

Registration, which is free, may be required to watch the videos.

I hadn't noticed during the race broadcast itself, but at 2m21s Vettel gives a wave
of thanks to his mentor and compatriot, Michael Schumacher, as Schumacher
allows him to pass.
