I'm part of a Kris Kringle group with presents up to $100. This year we're dropping hints about what we'd like, so I'm looking for ideas of an astronomy-related gift for myself.

I don't need any books. Any suggestions?

Interesting, but probably not. I use a towel over my head instead!

You probably have one of these already but my Telrad was the best $100 I EVER spent in astronomy. Highly recommended!!

When I am asked for Xmas gift suggestions I always request no items for my hobbies or other pastimes. I like to shop for these personally.;):D

Being male I hate shopping for clothing so I always suggest universal type stuff like T shirts, underwear and sox for presents to save me from tedious shopping.

Maybe a pair of cheap Binos off ebay, or 2nd hand? You'd be surprised how useful they can be, beats taking a telescope to middle of nowhere any day ;) Otherwise consider a 1mW green laser from ebay?

A friend of mine bought one (It's 1mW so not illegal) and you can see the beam quite clearly. When viewed from the side though you can't see it, which is great so no one can get a bit uncomfortable seeing a green line from your backyard every night ;)

How about the pocket version of S&T's Sky Atlas. Its a great little and handy. I always have a copy handy, as it is kept in my eyepiece case. Wouldn't be without it.

How about a gift voucher for one of the astro shops?

Is there a Southern Hemisphere version or do we have to use the charts upside down?

Yeah, that might be the fall back.

Thanks. Just ordered it for half the price at Bintel.

Thanks for all the replies. Have hinted at two options: Bintel gift voucher or DVD box set of a certain supernatural TV show from the '90s.

And thanks to Nick "technofetishism" I am seriously considering a hooded observing vest (and possibly a light sabre...)

The solar hoodie is a brilliant thing, I give it 2 thumbs up.
