Well, big, big news. Disney buys the right to the Star Wars franchise.

I'm going to remain optimistic about this although there are so many things that can go wrong here.
Disney do make good films these days now and no Lucas is definately a good thing.

Discuss.

I really don't get how some fans love Star Wars but not Lucas. Even more bizarre is when people try to tell him what his vision should be.
I think he has made a great series, a great universe, and lots of entertainment. Thanks George! :)

Except that it is the modified versions, not the ones you saw in the cinema.

I have no issue with directors updating their movies, as long as they also make the originals available, they are historical documents really.

With any luck Disney may see the $$ in releasing the original versions on Bluray one day.

The magic has gone and Lucas knows it. There will never be another Star Wars, no matter how you rebadge it. I'll pass.

Sadly, you are probably right, John.

I think Disney should employ Lucas as a consultant to craft a storyline, because he is great at that. Just don't let him write any dialog.... he's not so good at that....

With Disney also buying Marvel (albeit a few years back) and then producing some awesome films recently (IMHO) I think that the Star Wars franchise just got very lucrative indeed.

Imagine a Star Wars film directed by Joss Whedon! *drooooool*

Cheers,
Simon

I think if they put enough consideration in to the story and law behind these new EPs of starwars they can pull it off. Disney isn't as bad as people seem to think they are, after all they did make 'The Avengers' and a few other alright titles.

Lets us pray they don't totally mess it up : )

The story of George Lucas is reasonably tragic so it's not particularly nice to have a go at him, but you can argue the magic was never in him:

Personally, I don't think Disney can do a worse job at making more Star Wars films than Lucas did with episodes 1-3, and maybe then can make something good.

What an awesome idea. He is the master of dry humour.
