Looking for software for the above camera, also known as a SBIG 1.4, now discontinued.

I have the opportunity to buy a Celestron Pixcell 255 CCD camera here in NZ, but it would come without the necessary software.

How about looking in your "junk drawers" for me <grin>. Needs to be soon though, as an online auction expires 1n a couple of days - sooo, not holding much hope !

I think that you can use CCDOps supplied by SBIG at:

http://www.sbig.com/Software.html

It looks like this is a free download?

From memory, the Pixcel 255 has a parallel interface so you would need a PC with a Parallel Port to get this to work. I understand that some Parallel Port adapters are not “true” Parallel Ports and so the camera may not work without the right adapter.

Iain,

The Pixcel 255 is a rebadged SBIG ST-5C. You can download the free CCDOpps and run it from there. Easy peasy.

Here is a page you've probably seen already:
http://www.company7.com/celestron/products/pix255.html

There are other pages with info and example pics around, just search for ST-5C.

Cheers,
Jason.

Just spotted this myself Iain. (You got first dibs besides I am broke !! Spent all my spare $$ on a new mountain bike )
Old hardware ain't it ? 1996. Is it still good operationally in todays technology ? And it runs parallel output as well ....
And is the $4000 claim true ? Seems a bit far fetched for a product aimed at amateur astronomers.
Just curious.
