If so I would love to hear your opinions on the performance.

I would also like some advice on the best places to purchase ???

Thanks.

Stu - We run many i5 and i7 27" iMacs in our advertising studio, and they are doing wonderfully performing high-end graphics duties. Photoshop, InDesign, PremierPro, SoundBooth - you name it, we run it. These machines are designed for this sort of work from the ground up. Like any machine - spec it with as much RAM as you can afford. Many OSX packages now make heavy use of the GPU too - which is much faster than a CPU for processing graphics.

I buy most of our Macs at JB Hifi, believe it or not. Apple prices are mostly uniform - no matter where you buy from.

Looked at JB , but they only seem to do the i5
If i'm gonna spend the money then i'm going for i7 and 2GB Graphics.

can't seem to find that anywhere apart from Apple stores

I use the macbook pro retina i7 and a 27inch i5 desktop.

Both are fantastic with pixinsight.
I even use parallels for photoshop (I have the windows version) on the I5 mac while pixinsight is running. No Problems with performance.

The neighbours were ooo'ing and arrr'ing over a 27" apple I had here for some work last week. They told me they saw one just like it for sale in Myers, so maybe they flog em as well.

Chris, that new Apple shop at Carindale is inaccessible, there's been a crowd about 30meters deep round around it since it opened :)
