View Full Version here: : NGC6334 Narrow Band

More playing with the QSI683 last night - with the moon near full I decided to try my first attempt at some narrow band imaging. I went for the cats paw again so I can play with some Ha blending using my previous LRGB data.
This image is 1.5 hrs of Ha, and 1 hr each of OIII and SII (all 10 min subs) mapped as SIII (R), Ha (G), OIII (B).
The Ha data was a lot stronger than the other two so I'll probably try to get some more OIII and SII tonight.
I'm quite pleased with it as my first NB image.

Reckon that's pretty awesome. This NB is a whole other ballgame, hey. How did you end up blending them?

Well, that’s one of the larger “Cat’s Paws” images that I’ve seen – quite an impressive image scale. The detail in the top right “lobe” is quite tantalising – nice work Peter!

A very nice image for your first NB, Peter!

Great photo Peter.
Congratulations on your first NB image...I still don't have the courage!

Well done, looks great for a first go at NB

Thanks Troy. It certainly needs long exposures - probably a couple of hours per filter. I blended SII/Ha/OIII as RGB using PS and then used levels/curves to even up the histograms.
glad you liked it.
Thanks Dennis. That top right lobe has been the benchmark for me on this object - there is so much going on in that region. It is interesting to compare what is revealed in the NB vs LRGB image.
Thanks Rick. It is another steep learning curve.
Cheers Ross. Just gotta get that guiding working well and the rest is easy!

The top right lobe in the NB looks completely different to the top right lobe in the LRGB :P (they're mirrored)

Great capture Peter. Is there something going on on the right hand side of the image? looks like some light creep or other (Moon?). But a really great first NB and very sharp and detailed.

Well maybe not purrrfect pete :P...but excellent for a first go at this dark art, wait and see what you come up with from now on...it's like Luna Park
