I thought i'd share this shot of Eta carina taken with a sony NEX5 attached to a skywatcher ED80 mounted on an ioptron cubepro alt/az tracking mount. The mount was roughly aligned and only synched on the moon which i was taking pictures of that night.Just as an experiment i centred on some stars taking long exposures at iso12800 and was pleasantly suprised at the results, nice round stars at exposures of 10- 15 seconds . Armed with these results i centred the scope on the eta carina nebula and took some shots at 20seconds exposure , one of which is shown below.

PS no darks, flats etc and the original was 14Mps

5 thats a great effort, a few stacked should be looking sweet, it has a slight purplish hue on my screen, might want to wind up the ed & scale the blue back a tad

Next time I have it setup I will make an honest attempt and take enough Pics to stack. , however it was only an experiment . The nex 5 seems promising.

:) Nice one.
Have you done any wide fields, just hooking the camera and lens to the mount? You should be able to get around 1min subs using a wide lens, albeit with some field rotation evident, but you can always frame to suit then crop after processing.
