Goodbye to my website

I have a new job starting in a couple of weeks, my first new job in 12 years. My website is currently hosted on my old employer's servers using propriatary software I helped build, so I won't be taking it with me.

I will be taking it offline sometime before 1st June.

It's been something like 7 years since it's last major refresh, so it's overdue for a fresh look. Here's hoping I have something new running in the not too distant future :) Thinking maybe wordpress  Not quite sure what new form it will take.:confused2: Maybe a simple google blog  like my astrophotography blog (http://blog.astrophotography.com.au/), they're so easy to update.

I know a lot of people have linked to various pages of mine like the polar alignment info (http://www.rogergroom.com/astronomy/info_polaralignment), and I still get over 80 individual real visitors each day. It'll be a shame to cut off all that traffic :(

Most popular pages over recent years? it's a bit bizzar...
1. Polar alignment (http://www.rogergroom.com/astronomy/info_polaralignment)
2. Pictures of the Milky Way (http://www.rogergroom.com/items/TheMilkyWay_11)
3. Deep Sky Stacking Programs (http://www.rogergroom.com/astronomy/info_deepsky_stacking_programs)
4. Pictures of a Mardo (http://www.rogergroom.com/items/Mardosequence_611) !?!?!
5. Pictures of Zebedee Springs (http://www.rogergroom.com/items/kimberley_zebedee_springs_1) ?!!?

(maybe there's an opening for someone to post pictures of little marsupials and Zebedee Springs? )

First started my website in 1994.

Self-hosted wordpress all the way!

Just get a site at wphosting.com.au - easy to get up and running.

Thanks Mike ... GoDaddy has proved confusing in the past so might switch now I have to deal with hosting not just domain management.. have other websites hosted with NetRegistry/Zip Hosting ... zero click WP of the site you recommend sounds enticing tho.. Of course the time comes in customising the site to look like your own.

Yes for sure, finding the right theme and then customising it for your needs is the next most time consuming part.

The first time around for my site, it literally took me months because I fussed over everything.
The second time around I went with a better theme framework that allowed more customisation through config, rather than having to hack html and CSS.

So it was quicker, but I still tinkered just because I can't help myself :)

I've got 5 or 6 sites (personal and business) hosted at wphosting so I can recommend them. I don't use them for domain name registration, but you can if you need to.
