Hi all,
I was photographing Orion tonight and as I was going through the frames preparing them for stacking I saw two objects that moved between two frames one is easy to see and one is harder to see but they are on the same trajectory

Hi Warren
Could be a satellite - what time were you imaging?

7pm but wouldn't a satelite leave a trail the images were 8sec long and there is a fainter object as well I have got pleanty of satelite trails before?
Not that I doubt you just thought it would leave a trail

Satellite passing through and revolving hence the light difference. See them all the time. If it's at a high altitude then it won't appear to be going very fast so almost no trail at 8 seconds

Right thanks it just reminded me of a show I saw once talking about finding near earth objects and how they found them using image comparison:thumbsup:
There are two objects one is fainter than the other but both are on the same path.
You could of caught the NOSS(Naval Ocean Surveillance System) pass, the travel in pairs and triples.

Try checking Calsky or Heavensabove and see if you can pin down any passes.

There's usually a few geostationary satellites near Orion's belt, isn't there, as it's on the celestial equator?

Warren, Iridium 94 went through on about that trajectory but it was at around 19:49. How sure are you of the time? I can't see any others that passed close to b Ori (HIP 26885).
When imaging the western horizon geostationaries move upwards (relative to the stars), not across.
Between the two images I can see a total of seven 'objects' all on the same path(for lack of a better term) and equally spaced. Def a satellite.
You're right, I can see them now you mentioned it.
That probably leans it more towards the flashing lights of a plane or chopper.

No the time would have been around 7pm as I was processing at 7.30pm but I am starting to believe due to overwhelming consistency of the replies that they are satelites
Thanks MrB well I was excited for a moment I thought I had found something new
Definately not a plane or chopper I was watching closely there were no lights visable to the naked eye.
