5D Mark III first light

All I can say is, "wow!"

The focus system on this camera is utterly phenomenal. The shutter lag is so improved, as well as a host of other features that have made me fall in love with it.

I had a wedding in Kiama last night and this image is a single sample of what I think makes for a portrait camera that will set new benchmarks, just like the original 5D did, 7 years ago.

I need to sleep and will post other images later.

I was about 100 metres away.

Again, out of DPP. Light source is diffused light after the sun had set.

Yeah, very impressive Humayun. I'm not entirely sure about "something" in the first image. Maybe it looks a little washed out? Dunno. It's not a fave for some reason, but the others are all very good indeed. Focus locked on the party so well that they look almost like cut-outs. Very sharp. Love the last two. Nice neutral tones. A lesser photographer would have pushed colour sat a notch. :thumbsup:

I'm very, very happy with my new toy.

Hopefully the new battery grip will be here in the next week or so (I preordered this with the camera). I initially thought the BG-E6 group would fit but it has a little nub that doesn't line up with the new camera.

I've been going through the wedding and have been finding ISO-12,800 and ISO-25,600 images which have completely fooled me as they are so, so clean. :eyepop:

Excuse my ignorance, (not savvy with DPP, not a canon owner........hehehehe) but when you say straight out of DPP, does that mean no processing has been applied?

Hi Bart,

Yes, I'm very, very happy with the second shot. I have an entire series of shots there with the flower girls walking about and the couple posing for me. They all came out superb.

And, yes, straight out of DPP means that the standard minimal RAW processing has been applied (a tick of contrast/shadow/sharpening/white balance adjustment). That's it. No other Photoshop trickery.

Again, I'm so astounded by the focus system in this camera. It is really, really something else altogether.

I was locking focus and tracking at f/4 in ISO-25,600 light. Nuts.

Hey Roger,

I was supposed to do some long exposure stuff after the wedding. But, it finished really late, and, unbeknownst to me, I was suffering from anterior tibialis tendinitis, which was really, really painful all of Saturday, chasing people around, getting down on my knee and back up again, etc. After the wedding, I popped two ibuprofen tablets, and sat in my car for 15 minutes to unwind. Then, started the 3 hour drive home!

If I can get out of work this weekend, I'll see what I can do.
