Can you use a 60D as a colour webcam on the scope to image planets?

I notice that there is a 1:1 ratio for the 60D to take video, is this one way I can use the camera instead of purchasing another webcam for planet and lunar shots. would this work with registax?

Yes it does work, not as well as a DBK21 for instance, the larger chip is a bit of a pain, as is the compression, but it does indeed work, just not as well.

Hey Dave, check out my Canon 1000D shot of Saturn (of course, you have already looked at it before......right? ;) ) taken using a 5 x powermate and Backyard EOS in Planetary mode with the 5x bonus feature switched on.....

Its possible, as I have shown....next time I will whack the 2.5x barlow in the train as well to really give it some scale.

All DSLRs compress the video, unless you are capturing via the HDMI output on a newer camera. The 60D uses MPEG-4 AVC / H.264 compression.\It does however have a VGA crop mode, which gives effective 7x magnification @640x480 so that is a plus.
