i know this is an astronomy forum, but october 2010 i bought a metal detector as i have a few gold fields close to where i use to live in central queensland. i bought it because the weather was too bad to take the boat out. a month after buying the detector, we got hit by 4 months of solid rain.

Bugger all, Tassie is experiencing it's usual dry, but a little unpredictable summer.

I am sick of the rain.

I was cut off from town with both bridges going under..when one came back I went to town got suppplies and came back home..that night the rain was very heavy and in the morning I found most of my 150 mt drive (track) was washed away...so for the next week I filled the holes using pick and shovel and got out again and made it down to Sydney where I was presented with a $200 bill for the marina guys pumping out my boat..the solar panel could not get enough charge into the batteries and she threatened to go down.

I have had to live on the boat to keep it afloat for the past week with only a couple of trips away when it was sunny. Living on a boat is fun but when it is raining somehow it becomes less so.

Fishing has been good however:thumbsup:.

Anyways they were right about the water desalinator solving our water needs...somehow irony has involved itself and Sydneys dam is full to overflowing.

Up home it does not stop raining...one day even with the Sun out it was still raining:eyepop:...being on top of the range any cloud passing over has to dump bagage to pass over my home... also I think there is a local action at play where the water goes up into the clouds and back down on a daily cycle.

The grass in 4 to 5 ft high despite the cows who visit doing their best to do my mowing.

Still much better than the fire threat part of the cycle.

Sorry

Not a drop today on the Central Coast.

Drove up to Mangrove Creek Dam a couple of weeks ago and it was only at 38% capacity?

Bloody hell it is bucketing down again, the grape harvests are going to suffer badly.
We've had 70mm in 3 days, but it has been coming down heavily today, and forecast through till tuesday.

There were some flood evacuation orders in place as well.

It is very dry here in Coffin Bay. Cloudy with a howling gale blowing but very very little rain. I can't believe how dry this area is. I had expected a costal area to be much wetter than it is.

The oysters are magnificent.

Definitely an ugly week for the wine industry. Was talking to a winemaker at one of the local wineries earlier today, she told me they'd had 160mm onsite since Sunday. Until now the fruit quality this vintage has been exceptional, but after this week i fear the worst for fruit still on the vine - hopefully growers can pull through

Only 20mm to 0900 today, hopefully it is easing :), lots of roads cut around here, plenty of flood waters in the lower lying areas.

While not in NSW, my place (~30km south of Adelaide) had just a touch over 80mm between 5am and 7pm on 29/2/12, with most of it falling between 5am and 12pm. This completely smashed my previous 24hrs rainfall of about 35mm. To put this is some perspective, 80mm is about 1/5th of my total rainfall last year. This was totally unexpected and was was one the highest readings in metropolitan Adelaide. Typical readings were in the order of about 20-40mm.

Rain has eased up again in Brissy. Clear skies today and quite warm but doesn't feel too humid. Hoping for similar weather tomorrow as we're heading to the beach :)

Gotta say, I cannot wait to get to Tassy and the cooler weather! Trying on thermals and breaking in hiking boots in this weather is ridiculous!

I really really do hope the rain eases soon for everybody in NSW, please stay safe everyone!

23.4mm so far today (since midnight) and counting.

The local rescue crew is rescuing a couple of people from the roof of a car in the middle of the Campbells River as I write this...

Strange country, one side is way too dry, has fires, and the other side is way too wet. You can send some of it this way; we sure could use some rain here.

Then again, maybe not; we have clear skies. :D

Yesterday ended up at 30.9mm. Not much happening so far today but there's plenty of time. We have to be on the tail end of the system by now...

Well, I must say... I've actually enjoyed this bit of wet weather. I have spent most of the time pottering about in the shed. Its the tidyest and most organised it has been since we moved here 5 or so years ago. I even managed to get into tinker mode this arvo!:D

It looks like another wet day tomorrow so I might have to start on the obs... it could do with a clean and tidy.
