Well after hitting my 6000 post Suzy reminded me of my very first post  So i googled it and found it

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=28992 (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=28992)

Wow i have learnt so much from that first post :)
Since then i have learnt that collimation is a must know how
I do have my 12inch dob with lovely eyepieces :D
And a lovely canon 500d camera and webcam
Eric showed me that there was more emoticons to be found in the forums  Then i found the purple text
I met one other Swan Hillian with a 20inch SDM :eyepop:
And Eric also talked me into going to Snake Valley Astro camp best thing i have ever done (now going for the 5th time i think)

And i now have some amazing astro friends that i can dribble my passion with people that speak the same astro language as me ;) that i will treasure for ever from this site :)

What was your very first post and how much have you achieved since then?

Just reading Nettie's post AND WHAT THA!! :eyepop::eyepop:
Two things I never thought I'd read together- Nettie and proud owner of department store telescope.

Was it really that good?
What was the outcome?
Do you still have it?
Please I beg you continue the story...:prey:
Was Janoskiss serious or pulling your leg over that purchase?

In my first post I clearly remember something about frog poo on the mirror from Nettie and that stuck in my brain for some reason. I thought wow that actually happens, so gross!
I was rather shy when I first started, I was too shy to publicly give feedback on everyone's comments or didn't know if that was the right thing in fact :screwy: so I messaged everyone that commented .
Weird- I'd been reading the forums for a few month before I joined but I froze at that time and didn't know what to do.
It was my first ever forum ever - a forum virgin if you like.:P

Here's mine http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=58219&highlight=covering+primary+mirror

Okay... so what have I learned since joining?
I've learned that my family now thinks that I'm a real smart A**S and for the last 6 months I've been banned from talking Astro when we leave our house and I have to limit myself at home as to how much I can talk about it. Even tho hubby himself is into astronomy and science :screwy:. It's a mad world I tell ya.

:lol::lol::lol: they have been soooo funny to read!! All little innocents, thats for sure, with department store scopes, as Suzy said, and h u s b a n d ...... jjj, eek.

Jen - and Paul (Zuts) foresaw Johnny ... .spooky!!

:D I still have the tube of the ebay scope.
For all it's faults, it ended up being a wee ripper. I modded that thing to within an inch of it's life. LOLOL
But I wouldn't recommend one for a beginner with only a casual interest in the hobby. I was already flipped out over all things astro so was determined to make it work.
Living under dark skies certainly helped too.

I don't remember my first post without looking it up but I remeber a lot of more interesting things like my first kiss other than the ones from maiden aunts that I tried to avoid. It happened at school in Kindergarten. I was six at the time. Three girls coaxed me to play with them at lunch time. Two of them each tried to out do the other with me on the receiving end. I even remember their names but I won't disclose and I did not complain either. The year was 1940

I think this is my first post back in Nov 2008.

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=37521

I had been observing for a while and was using an ASV loan scope. Took it to Vicsouth and had a great time, although I did get told of by Perry Vlahos for not using the atlas that came with the scope!

How about when you became brave and posted your first thread! (OK, I know the extraverts amongst us started with a big bold brash thread!! I came in with a whimper.) Here is mine 19-12-2006, 12:10 PM :-

I'm still confused :help: But I did see that gap with 30x binoculars fairly well!

I found my first post. It was pretty boring. Just answering a beginners question.
One thing I didn't remember though was that I used forums very little then. I only posted about 6 times in the first year.

Go into advanced search.
Put your user name in.
List all posts but change the order to ascending order. The first one in the list is your first post.

The forum was a lot more relaxed then, like most of the "old timers" I was poached by an unscrupulous character called Iceman, who probably would have been better titled "black hole".

Mike managed to strip the "other forum" of it's entire membership in a very short period of time.

ballaratdragons
25-02-2012, 04:50 PM
Yes Phil, all of us originals were poached from another Astro Forum.
But that other Forum was also a shambles
I went back in there a few weeks later after I joined here only to find that ALL previous posts had been deleted and they started the whole Forum from scratch again!
All the helpful tips, tricks, files, Images and helpful data was gone!
I think they spat the dummy not long after that and shut it all down anyway
It was run by an Astro Shop and I think they went out of business.

"Last edited by [1ponders]; 23-03-2010 at 09:32 PM. Reason: inflammatory & breach of TOS"

Try to beat that :)

8/5/2006. Nothing very exciting.

But I had fun going through my earlier posts. Brought back some memories when I purchased my Tal 200K from a guy in the US. It was going to be expensive to have it shipped here so I got him to send it across the US to Utah as I had a conference there. A bit of a struggle getting this big box through the airport.
