Here is a rough & quick wide field. 7 x30 sec images dark subtracted DSS and CS5 with a Canon 30D 55mm at f4.7. all stars are elongated due to a fixed mount.

A nice, very wide shot David.

I have found to not get any noticeable trailing with a fixed tripod, I use 30 seconds with a focal length of about 18mm and then reduce exposure in proportion to the increase in focal length.

Thanks.

Ross.

That's wide David! Shame about the trailing. Shorter subs with your lens like 10s should do the trick. Meanwhile you can tweak those stars with this tut if you want to round them up:

Does the job. :)

Really? I get a bit of trailing at 30s with the 18mm on the front. I can only get about 20s before it raises its ugly head.
