Greetings I have been browsing ICEINSPACE for over a year now off and on and thought I would finally join up. A great resource of information and friendly people here have already helped me make my first purchase of a telescope getting a Skywatcher ED80 Black Diamond and love it. I needed something small to take 4x4 and camping it fitted the bill nicely. I look forward to learning sharing and learning over this great website community. As well as joining a astronomy club and partaking events in person around the Macedon Ranges area in Victoria Serceina :>

Welcome James, it is a great forum and an excellent resource. My only advice to you at the moment is to avoid joining that "astrology" club! You might get some odd advice there.

Hi James,

A big welcome to you. There is loads of assistance available here, and I must say I envy you having access to the Mt Macedon area which is just beautiful at any time.

Whatever your emerging favourite astro activity, there is an interest group within IIS. There is for example an Astro Camp coming up at Snake Valley VIC, in Mar 2012,

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=86387

and you might like to visit that for a night or 2, just to look at stuff and chat to the others.

Here's the first astro tip ;) don't say "astrology" here when anyone is looking :eyepop: , that's fortune telling, and different to astronomy, which is the great fun future you have now set out to follow  A good trick is to edit your original post :innocent: and then just act as though it never happened :newbie:

Cheers

Hi James
Snake Valley is a great resource for us. It is easily accessible from Mt Macedon. They have 2 camps each year with the March one coming up in just over month.
It is one of the friendliest camps around and lots of observers and imagers all keen to show off their gear and would give you a great feel for the possibilities in this hobby.
The association also has regular meetings and observing nights, so keep your eyes open on these forums for when the next one is.

Thank you all for the warm welcome you have extended to me. Haha yeah I used the wrong word there. ^^; The camping trip over at Snake Valley looks great I have to sign up and attend it will be an amazing experience. I don’t have my drivers licence currently, I get it back at the start of April, bad timing. I still should be able to make it how ever.
