Here is the latest.
The 36mp Nikon D800 is expected to be announced on the 7th of Feb.
That would put a lot of pressure on Canon to respond. So it seems likely if the D800 is announced next week we will hear about the 5D Mkiii soon afterwards.

22mp and Digic 5 which is 17x faster than Digic 4 but Digic 5+ is 3X faster than Digic 5.
A better autofocus and expanded video capabilities are obvious targets for a better 5D. Autofocus for the video would be one. The only complaint I consistently read about the 5D Mkii is about the still photo autofocus system being too basic.
If that spec is true there will be long threads about Nikon 36mp versus Canon 22mp. Also Nikon are rumoured to have 2 D800's one with and one without the antialiasing filter. That could be handy. The one without may work better with astrophotography and better in some terrestial shots.
