Most people may be back from Hols, so just posting a thread to see who will be there to bring in the New Year?
02-01-2012, 08:17 PM
weather permitting. I have not had the scope out in months
02-01-2012, 08:46 PM
Yup, I'll try and be there weather permitting
03-01-2012, 03:39 PM
I am also keen, weather permitting. It looks like a work colleague Tom, and possibly his mate and/or dad might come along too.
03-01-2012, 05:35 PM
Best idea I've heard all year!
03-01-2012, 05:56 PM
Please provisionally put my name down, pending last minute event changes.
03-01-2012, 06:16 PM
Before anyone gets too excited...
Otherwise I'm in.
03-01-2012, 06:54 PM
Greg, Greg, Greg, wash your mouth out.......
As my old friend, who is a meteorologist with the BOM, says, "Forecasts greater than 24 hours away are little more than an educated guess."
Keep the faith....
04-01-2012, 01:03 AM
I had the scope out over the New Year, and I saw that it was good.
05-01-2012, 06:30 AM
My feelings are its got to stop raining at some point. Great to hear your up and running Greg, it will be good to catch up. my mirror is now looking like Feb sometime maybe. The Antares secondary is in and seems fine.

I hope to be there if it is weather permitting, Greg: I know damn well that you have been very right before so i have a contingency plan in place in the event of inclement weather.
The "other Group" are praying for rain  (they want my Karaoke gear/ light show for the night, and me of course).
Otherwise: February and Bretti are coming up quickly
09-01-2012, 10:52 AM
Im in :) weather permitting
10-01-2012, 10:06 PM
Might be away.......
We will see
13-01-2012, 07:32 PM
Yep. Jack and I are in weather permitting as we haven't been able to come up for a few months.
Dying to try out the new 10" DOB we acquired last year up at the site :D.
13-01-2012, 09:23 PM
Greg, according to your long-term weather outlook, the 21st is now looking rather good.....
14-01-2012, 08:59 AM
Yes it's a miracle. :)
The only "low" day in the chart!
14-01-2012, 03:13 PM
Tentative at this stage. I'll see how things are after the Mariners game on the 21st against Adelaide.
About to leave to go to Bluetongue to see them against the Jets.
Go the Mariners !!!
The Yellow Army.
16-01-2012, 09:02 PM
I've never been to the pony club before.
Can someone give me a run down about how these gathering transpire?
16-01-2012, 10:04 PM
Hi Jeremy, you are very welcome to join us. We are often joined by visitors and newbies, and most of us are delighted at the opportunity to give people a chance to observe through our telescopes.
You don't need to bring anything (apart from warm clothes and, if you have a torch, make sure it is covered in several layers of red cellophane so you do not disrupt everyone's dark adaption).
Usually one of the keyholders is there by about 6pm to open the gate up, then we slowly appear over the course of the next 2-3 hours, setting up our scopes in anticipation of darkness.
People pack up and leave as they become tired / frustrated by clouds / frustrated by faulty equipment, etc. Most people would be there until about midnight at least, and on really good nights some have stayed until dawn. I usually head home about 1am.
Eating and drinking provide one way to keep alert and awake, so you would be well advised to bring a thermos with some coffee, etc, and some nibbles.
There is a sticky thread in this section of the forum which provides details of the location.
Hope to see you this Saturday!
16-01-2012, 11:19 PM
Yeah, Rod has pretty well covered it all.
Definitely a good idea to get there before dark, if for no other reason than to get a good spot in the paddock!
Fortunately (or not), dark seems to be after 8 lately.
17-01-2012, 03:51 PM
Thanks for the information Rod and Shane. Hopefully I'll be able to make it.
the wife is away on Saturday but not sure when she'll need me to come pick her up at the station. :-)
20-01-2012, 03:57 PM
The weather is not looing good according to the info I have.
I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed.
20-01-2012, 04:35 PM
Anyone know where Mr Owl is these days?
In the last post I read of his he said the weather would not improve until March!
Has he retired till then?
20-01-2012, 05:02 PM
At this time of arvo Greg he usually is very retired.
No doubt he will respond in due course.
Might catch you Sat. night.
20-01-2012, 06:52 PM
the Owl is alive and well
do not be concerned
he has been eagerly watching 7Timer to see if he is visiting the mountain this weekend
although he is well - he is annoyed that the weather for the weekend looks like being CRAP
i guess we will have another chance next weekend
21-01-2012, 10:07 AM
Doesn't look like tonight is going to happen.
The forecasts are for mostly cloudy all night.
As Geoff says, maybe next week?
21-01-2012, 11:04 AM
How's the weather near Mangrove Mt/Gosford area? it is totally overcast here in Sydney and looks like the cloud is not going anywhere soon.
21-01-2012, 01:46 PM
Gosford area is raining as I type this.
Clouds are covering the sky totally.
Looks like a night in I am afraid.
Maybe an Apple Charlotte will help....:D
21-01-2012, 02:09 PM
next week ain't looking much better either
21-01-2012, 02:16 PM
Raining here an hour ago. Very overcast now. Weather prediction not looking good at all for tonight. Looks like I'll be coming home after the Mariners game tonight. Tentative for PC next week?
21-01-2012, 02:19 PM
East coast weather sux. When are we going to get some pristine sky??????
Might practice some guitar tonight as an alternative diversion therapy?:P
21-01-2012, 04:51 PM
I am calling it. Hope to see you all next month...
21-01-2012, 07:40 PM
I thought the weather in Ireland was bad :D
Just bought a more scope and fishing gear carrying capable car today too. There goes the weather for the next few months.
21-01-2012, 08:03 PM
Up here at Burredong dam near Wellington, been enjoying some very dark and dewless skies. Even though I only have my bino's. Sorry to hear the Central Coast is still dishing up crap skies. Here's hopping for next weekend
21-01-2012, 08:06 PM
yep once again no clear skies. I am thinking of selling my SDM scope. I love it to death but jesus this weather and the drive time to get anywhere good is hard. I still dont have my new 12" mirror and don't expect to anytime soon if ever but have thought about selling my place in the mirror line too. Two years and $7,500 dollars later I have had the scope out a hand full of times. Maybe if I do this the skies will clear
22-01-2012, 08:34 AM
Hang in there Stacy. :)
22-01-2012, 12:13 PM
The good weather will be here for the winter. Cool days, and cold, cloudless nights. Same as last winter. That is my prognosis.
22-01-2012, 02:04 PM
I am extremely optimistic of experiencing great skies at Bretti over the New moon in February, for those going, will see you there (with bells on).
Will get the scope out this week and clean out the cobwebs etc
23-01-2012, 12:32 PM
and it just gets better and better....
28-01-2012, 10:55 AM
I can't see tonight as being a goer ..
28-01-2012, 11:39 AM
Looking at the forecast for tonight I'll give it a miss.
28-01-2012, 05:17 PM
Yep.. clouded in again!!!!! Grrrr.
Pass on tonight.
29-01-2012, 09:55 AM
Sick of this constant crappy weather!
31-01-2012, 11:20 PM
03-02-2012, 08:06 AM
There is the chance of a clear patch Saturday night!
At this point, I'd be excited just to get a scope out.
