Hi,
Just interested, has any body else used astro names for their pets?
We've had four.
Three Galah's and one dog a labrador.
Dog named Nova, but was more like a fat red giant.
Galah 1. Astro, a bird with lot's of character, used to love coffee, always sneaking a drink from a cup left unguarded.
Galah 2. E.T. not strictly an astro name but a very gentle bird.
Galah 3. Comet, and he's just like a comet, unpredictable out bursts and like along period comet, he's going to out live us! The kids are thrilled that we are going to leave him to them in our will, NOT!!!
Cheers,
Justin.

:D
I had a cat called "Astro" and my last dog was called "Major" for Canis Major.

One of our ratties is named "Pixel" I guess that is sort of related to astro stuff.

A dog we had when i was a kid we called Sputnik, the reason was because he had a habit of biting on to our trousers and spinning around (orbiting) our legs.

Its worth reading the story of Laika, the first dog in space, quite sad really. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laika

Yes, I have a book about the history of Spaceflight and they go into great detail about Laika.
It's a real 'From Rags to Riches' type story with such a sad ending.
Laika was a stray, but became the most famous dog in history.

My daughter named her new pony stallion Bootes because he lives in the same paddock I am constructing my observatory dome in.

Cheers

Our cat is called "Cloudee", not so much an astronomical name but more of what we get to observe the most these days ;)

I want Corvus for our next dog (nothing to do with dogs but I liked the name). I spent many months mapping a gas prospect called Corvus at work and thought it would make a good pet name. My kids want Grimlock (transformers) for the next dog though!

Two dogs: Bellatrix - a big misnomer as she is a major league wimp & Sirius (what else could you call a dog?)

My brother's budgie when we were kids was Aquila... mind you he did latin for 6 years as well as being an astronomer so not sure which was the factor in naming the bird! :)
