I just made an extension cable for the handset of my Nexstar scope, and thought I would share a few caveats. Here's a photo of the setup.

There are a few things to watch out for.

Firstly, you need a 6P6C coupler. These are a bit harder to find than the more common 6P4C, but 6P4C won't work; you need all 6 conductors.

Secondly, you can't just use a normal phone extension lead. Again, you need 6P6C rather than 6P4C, but also be aware the connectors on a standard phone extension cable aren't crimped the right way around for the Nexstar. You could cut one connector off and crimp a new one on the right way, or do what I did and buy a length of 6P6C flat cable, some 6P6C modular connectors, and crimp them on the way shown in the photo below.
