Aye lad, very well done.

Like you we've been here since 1982 - almost 30 years, and never regretted a single moment of it. Over here in lil' ol' WA, it seems like paradise compared to many other places in the world - my homeland (pommieland) included. But not Norway it seems - lol

Congratulations Ron!
My 40 years isn't up until October next year.
Just wondering how you got here ... ship or plane? ... and if by ship, which one?
I arrived here from the UK on the Chandris Line "Britanis" in October 1972. I left Southampton in September 1972 ... on my 21st birthday as it happened.

Well done Ron,
I came to Australia on March 4 1986. Landed in Adelaide in a scorcher 35c, nothing special about the temp, except when you consider I left in -10c in the Northern hemisphere.

The weather for observing over the last couple of those forty years has been so bad, I could have been back in the UK,and there wouldn't have been any difference:rolleyes: :lol::lol:

Andy, I came out on the fifth Jumbo to bring us "Ten Pound Poms" :P to Australia :)
I used to see the Chandris Line ships come into Steamer point Harbour in Aden loaded with British people in the 1960's,so am quite familier
with those ships :)
Cheers

Seriously though, happy anniversary old chum. So glad you made the decision to to move over here. :)

Bo, I left England and it was just about freezing C and arrived in Aus with the temp at about 38c in Darwin and 100% humidity:help:
When we got to Brisbane and walked across the white concrete to the Igloose of the old airport, we where soaked with sweat before we had walked 20mts:eyepop:

Hi Ron,

Great to hear you have now been living in Australia for forty years to the day.

We're obviously not a very influential lot as collectively we haven't totally
managed to re-program your accent. :)

Best Regards

Gary & Mai

Well done Ron on sticking with us!
I grew up in the Latrobe Valley which was full of ten pound poms back in the 60s and 70s. You could tell the poms because when they first met each other they would ask "which ship did you come out on?"' while the Aussies always asked " which footy team do you barrack for?"
My mum was a ten pounder, when we went back to the UK in the early 70s for a couple of years, she always said that England was a nice place to visit but wouldn't, like to live there.

Well done Ron. :)

40 years is enough to stop being called a transient.

Give it a few more and we'll have to upgrade you to resident.

You'll still need a few generations to be for the descendants to classed as locals. This I know as I'm half local - Dad only migrated here in 1926.

What, Ron, have you STILL got a pommie accent?

Go see more Paul Hogan movies :P

I remember the Race into Space cards. We lived in England in 70 and 71 so that would be about the right time frame. Thanks for reminding me. I think you could buy an album and collect all of them to complete the album.

That remind me that I arrived in Sydney in November 1969. I have never look back. But I miss seventies - lots of freedom, no political correctness and I was young then.

Congratulations on your 40th anniversary!

I marvel at your love for Aussie- the constant travelling around the country, the regular bush walks, enjoying the southern skies- you embrace Aussie to it's full glory. :gday:
 And still... after 40 years your accent is a thick as! :P

I'm not far behind you- arriving 36 years ago from Sri-Lanka and I took to Aussie like a duck to water- for a start there was tv! :eyepop: So much has changed now- more people- you mentioned on fb the population has nearly doubled - so alas more traffic on the roads and the city centre has quadrupled. I miss the good old days when things were quieter and simpler, but at any rate, it's a fantastic country and indeed "the lucky country". I love it here and could never think of leaving.:)

Just thought it appropriate that I pop this link here to help commemorate this wonderful milestone anniversary.
"It's always Australia for me" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytWmqeh63KQ&feature=fvsr)by Olivia Newton-John (as you know, I'm a huge fan of hers. :P The scenery in this clip is fantastic- from the snow to the dessert, to the beach, and to the cities. We truly have so much here in this country to enjoy don't we! And the song itself is truly touching.
