What is the aperture of your largest scope?
Round the answer to the nearest inch.

C11, aperture limited by portability concerns. If I had a lined garage which I could wheel a scope out from I'd get a ~14" scope.

Just my beloved 254 newt :)

The biggest I've owned was a 10" but only have an 8" now.
I should really get out there and use it more often.

Why do you go up in 1 inch increments above 6", when most refractors are smaller than this and cover a plethora of sizes?

12". Biggest I'm willing to carry in and out the door and down the steps.

Hi all,

My largest that I have in my possession is an 18" Obsession, I also have 14" and 10" scopes.

As a 3RF Australia Volunteer I also have access to 20", 25" and 30" scopes. But to be honest my preference is for people younger and larger than me to transport and set those up, as they are physically quite demanding and every year they just keep getting heavier :)

Cheers,
John B

I have an 8" scope but will eventually get a 11 or 12".
I'm finding that I am restricted for photometry and spectroscopy with the 8".

:) I'd dearly love to have a 6" APO! LOL

Well, 4" (3.56) and 2" (2.36) refractors plus an 8" Mewlon. I guess that's my largest :)

I agree Chris.

Maybe refractor owners aren't allowed to vote
Maybe only Reflectors and SCT's need apply  hey Glen :poke:

Oh, and my vote is for my 12" dob

Did you mean the biggest scope ever owned or the biggest currently owned?

I had a 12" dob for a while but I'm back to an 8" RC now.

Three scopes - 80mm (3+") achro refractor, 114mm (4.5") reflector and a whopping big 127mm (5") achro refractor. The latter is far too big to use of course. ;)

9.25 Celestron SCT here. A nice balance between big (Would love bigger) and portable. I can break it down, carry it out, set it up and have it cooling off outside in about five minutes. About as heavy as I would want to carry too.

My wife refers to my 20" SDM as a "phallus-scope".

It is very wide and very long, and takes your breath away went pointing up, collecting excited photons.

The views through the Mary Rose are out of this world. It is so much fun to play with in the dark.

Hi Rod,

I hope the "phallus scope" comes out a bit more regularly than Comet McNaughty returns for a loop around the sun ;)

It does indeed John, and the zipper on the shroud works fantastically, enabling me to expose the mirror.

The scope also has excellent lubrication, swinging with fluid motion.

The 12" is still out in front (23.7%) with 10s and 8s almost equal second (20.3% vs 19.6%). There are a fair few 14s (12.2%) and 16s (10.8%) too.

12" SCT. Much too heavy to lug around so is permanently mounted in fibreglass dome. Takes less than 3 minutes from opening dome door to start collecting photons.

Looks like 12"/13" and 8"/9" scopes are the most common with 10"/11" coming third.
