I've been on the look out for some cheap land in Australia to use as a base for camping (shipping container), dirt toys (quad bikes/bush bashers) and also my astro gear.

Perhaps less than $15k and less than 5 hours from Brisbane... Is there such a thing?

I've been on realestate.com.au searching, found a few under 15k but most seem to be in townships which is not preferable. Are the bush blocks of land generally private sales? How can you find out about them?

Anyone had any experience with a similar project?

Yeah found the same thing as well, mostly land is cheap in town to attract people to populate the town, many of the house sales maybe land are subject to conditions to populate

Those days are pretty much gone- 15 years ago there were some blocks back of Tara and Dalby about 200 acres for 20k. $100 per acre -
but now.?
Well I guess you could buy an old mining town for that. Cracow?

Tara is still cheap $29k for 30 acres... but out of my budget for a camping spot that will be used relatively rarely.

If only it was easier to divide a block - I am sure there are many sitting on X acres that would relish an easy $10k for x% of their property.

I've thought of the same sort of thing, but assume that councils don't want tiny blocks way out of town that will be of little use to anyone down the track, once you have lost interest in the land.

Geez, sounds like a few of you should get together and purchase a lump of dirt, set up your own astro\dirt bike\camping farm thing.
