Another weekend project for inclement weather was a lightbox. This one uses 2 pieces of craft board which sandwiches an EL panel and craft foam cut into a strip.
I routed one piece of craft board to fit a translucent panel inside. Notice the insulation tape, this is where the knife went through the craft board :D
The EL display is full size A5 and has not been cut so I can re-use it again when I change the scope or get a different one.

You should find it very useful. I made one for my 10" RC using an almost identical method. I found the EL panel was a bit 'grainy' so my final version included a 5mm thick Opal translucent diffuser.

I agree,
I have noticed some strange gradients in my image. The unit is extremely light weight as well. Never tested without a diffuser, I had some 3mm panels aside from another job years ago, I used it just in case.
Am considering modifying for multi size scopes too.

Nice.
I about to do same thing but will have diffuser panel after the el panel.
Is the craft board black or did you paint it? Also what is the material you used to create the ring for the scope ?

I purchased all the craft material from a local craft shop. The craft-board is Matt black naturally. It is essentially 2 pieces of cardboard with hard foam sandwich inside. It is easy to cut, sometimes too easy.
The foam, I am not sure of the name of the material, I bought it about 6 months ago and can't remember the name of the stuff. I have a massive excess though, not sure what I am going to do with it all but I am sure it will come in handy.
I was considering making a kit up for craft material as you can only buy it in a large board, unless you can purchase it in strips.
