That's a really low price for an ion milled RCOS. They must be $40+ new.
It says USA only but I am sure that is negotiable. You know - money talks.....

Wonder how much to ship to CA (so it would be CONUS), and then back to Sydney as excess baggage. Don't suppose they'd throw in the PME.

I was in the neighbourhood a few days ago. Dang!

Regular air frieght on something like that would be around AUD$1200
I'd estimate. My CDK 17 cost around $1400 in air freight. Excess baggage - hmm - not sure, airlines probably post a price/kg and it would weigh around 100kgs boxed up.

Missed by that much!

So which is better, RC or CDK?

I think either is a great scope. Ion Milled optics though is a pretty awesome feature.

The main feature of a CDK is its a lot cheaper for same aperture.
It still boils down to 2 mirrors and a corrector for either. RC mirrors are harder to make accurately. RC images are still some of the best around so you can't argue against that.

Very tempting, but mmm, youd have to wonder at the reason for the price. I wonder what the condition of the mirrors are after being exposed to the sky every night for years.

Yes I guess so but that's just a recoat isn't it or does it need refiguring if it gets too bad?

Somebody seems to have picked it up anyway.

Am sure Steve would cut you a deal Greg.

In case others aren't aware Lightbuckets is closing down. Steve is selling out as another employment opportunity has come up making it difficult to run the telescope business. He's also selling the 24" RC which has probably already been snapped up by a university I would imagine.

Of course you can buy the entire remote telescope operation including residence if you wish - http://www.rodeoskies.com/

Their intellectual property of remote telescope control and general user interface would be of interest to other online rental telescope operators. The logic that they built on top of ACP is incredible and leaves the other players for dead. Without doubt, Steve's concept on online telescopes has been revolutionary. While I'd like to say the same for the other players, they simply aren't in the league of Lightbuckets.

This is a very clean instrument at a good price.

Only one problem with the scopes on the ranch...actually, with the 8" on the ground. Wile E Coyote would be using it most of the time to track down the Road Runner!!!!:):P

Have to agree as well, what an awesome house & land package.

Unfortunately this scope and their other 'small' scope have been sold already.
