HEQ5 high slew speed upgrade kit

Was just wondering if anyone has thoughts on this upgrade. I have HEQ5 non pro and its slew speed is non existant. Was wondering if this upgrade would give it much advantage over a normal HEQ5 pro?

Was also thinking about making up such a kit from parts but think it would be beyond me :)

Is the kit likley to give greater tracking accuracy?

750 pounds for the upgrade kit :eyepop:. You could buy a brand new HEQ5 pro with that, why would you bother???

my assumption is that it is much more significant than a heq5 pro given the way it has to be mounted, ie turns it into a super mount with better trancking, faster slewing. But i could be way off..... and it may just be a tacky upgrade.

Its funny I havnt even used my HEQ 5 yet and I am thinking about upgrading it :)

I doubt it. There is no mention of changing the worms which cause the greatest error in that mount. If it signifcantly improves PE why are there no figures given??? Motors and gearbox combo's may improve torque for carrying capacity and slew speed but that is not as important as tracking accuracy. Looks like an expensive way to get more of the same:shrug:

Thanks Mark, I guess I will just squeeze what I can out of the Heq5 as it is and maybe try to upgrade the motors myself at some point as project if I can work what parts I will need and source them (for faster slewing). Need to finish my long exposure project on my phillips spc880 first.

It is a low cost (almost free, actually - if you are prepared to do some soldering yourself) but very good and high performance solution to your problem.
