Hey all.
First time poster, found this great forum out of one of the Aussie Astronomy mags.
I was just wondering if anyone has had any dealings or any problems with the online australian store http://www.spaceandastronomy.com.au ?

Im looking at buying there 3.3MP CCD. anyone have any pros/cons for that camera ?

Thanks in advance
Entropy

Welcome,

I personally have not bought from them, but often use the website for reference material.

I do not know of many guys using these to be honest, for dso's canon's 350d 20d and 5d seem very popular and then specialist dso cameras.

Sorry i could not be of more help

Hi there, just a thought, but if you haven't actually had a problem with them it might be better to modify the title of your post since it might give the wrong impression? ;)

Cheers,
Bruce

good call, "Have you dealt with....." as there is no actual "Problem" as such

Yes please modify the title cos it's missleading.
If there's been no problem with the company it's not right to title the thread like this.

Sorry Entropy I've never delt with them so I can't offer any advice.
Do a search on our forum though because I seem to remember a thread about this camera.

I looked them up because of their advert in S&S about super wide angle Meade EPs for $89 (??). None of the advertised products are on the site. And what's there is way overpriced.

Sorry to be pedantic, but i never actually said that I had no problems with the store, i just asked if anyone else had any problems. That was the only reason i titled my post in that manner.

Also, could you give me some advice on keywords to search for, as, for as far as i can tell, the camera has no 'brand' name per se.

Thanks again, and sorry about the confusion

Cheers Entropy,

Just wanted to save any other members from getting confused too.

I knew I'd seen something on here about it, but it's not much to go on.

I found this camera just a few weeks ago. The guy who sells them appears to have helped design the SAC 10 and the Orion StarShoot Deep Sky imager.

Here's his website http://qhy.lamost.org/3megaccd/

Personally I would email him and he will produce a ton of info on the cameras that he has made. He has a usb 1.1 camera that is similar to that camera called QHY 2 and you can choose the type of CCD chip.

He sells them for $500 USD so even if it was mailed to you it would be a least $100 cheaper. I tried emailing Space and Astronomy and are still waiting on their reply.

think it actually cost a bit more than $500...the power supply for the CCD, the power supply for "cooler"-(guess that's the two stage peltier?),the actual "cooler" etc add $ US100 or so..suppose the question is what the Space and Astronomy people supply as standard

if you do hear from them can you please share with us...or if you decide to buy from quihongyun, would be most interested in a review..or maybe if more than one IIS er decides to buy we can swing a better deal????

I am now pretty certain it is the SAC 10 at a much lower cost.

there is a guy in Belgium who has been putting out some pretty good stuff with this camera..I am going to see if I can find his email and get some first hand feedback

Hey all, thanks heaps for the great, informative replies.
Unfortunantaly the manufacturer (i think thats who it is, well whoever this guy is getting the camera off) of this camera is being a real pain in the uranus in sending these cameras out. Now i have options though... i feel empowered :P

Thankyou very much
