Hi,
Some publicity on a change in consumer law since Jan 2011:
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/06/07/3238030.htm?section=justin
Commonwealth law has superseded parts of State laws, and there will be joint administration. Here is Fair Trading NSW on it:
http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/About_us/Legislation/National_reforms_to_consumer_laws.h tml#Australian_consumer_law
I note with interest that astro gear that is costly, and would reasonably be expected to last significantly longer than a year, might have to be covered for repair or replacement by the seller for a longer period. As before, the seller cannot avoid this by referring the buyer to a manufacturer or wholesaler. The final decision in any dispute will be up to a State Tribunal or the courts.
