How do I set a flag so I never, ever see a particular member's threads or posts?

Put them in your Ignore List (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/profile.php?do=ignorelist).

Click on that link, add the members name and viola!

And when you black list someone, if they start a thread do you not see that whole thread, or just their posts in it?

Cheers,
Jason.

Thanks, one done and I'm feeling better already. :)

Just their posts. The content of their post is replaced with:-

"This message is hidden because XXXXXXX is on your ignore list (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/profile.php?do=ignorelist)."

Unfortunately you still see what they wrote if someone quotes them in another post.

The ones on my ignore list rarely get quoted, so not too bad.

The ignore list works with PM's too, so you don't have to read whatever they send to you

How do you plonk a whole thread? Ignoring someone without being able to ignore the thread is a bit pointless.

"Ignore List" sounds so much more politically correct then "Black List", my opinion of course, at least these days.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am under the impression that you have to be logged in to see if a post or reply is ignored (by your own doing) i.e. if you choose to be a guest, then all posts and replies are shown?

Correct.

Hmm.....nice guy on the surface but now he's ignoring people - are you a Gemini Eric? ;)

Only took about 20 seconds scanning 'new posts' to figure out who was annoying enough to drive you to such desperate measures.

As a matter of interest does the "Ignore List" apply to PMs?
Does the ignore list block PMs?

Steven

I know I may well be on the odd ignore list, but I'm simply stunned by the reality that someone could be so incensed by someone's personality that they ignore what (possibly little) may be relevant or insightful or even knowledgable.

I'm sure that, even if I disliked someone very much, I would never put them on an ignore list. I could never dislike anyone that much nor find their case so lost as to shun them.

Perhaps I'm being a Jane Bennet, but there IS good in all of us and we should be open enough to see it.

Jen,

Once you've been on here a while you too will get sick of conspiracy theory idiots, astrology morons, and all the other weirdo's who think people with an interest in Astronomy might be interested in their crap.

Cheers,
Jason.

Oh you're talking Charlatans and Snake oil Merchants?
I just skip over those. :D

Thanks Paul,

It's an unfortunate fact that an abusive PM can be sent and as a parting shot put you are put on individual's ignore list.

I know from first hand experience.

Not only is it cowardly but it turns the ignore list into a weapon of personal attack.

Steven

I'm a very tolerant person, so others say. This is my first "ignore" in four and a half years. :(

Jen,

I'm with you. People just don't phase me that much. if I don't like what they are saying, I just stop reading it. Easy huh !

The ignore list is good to filter the posts of all the abusive people or crackpots that polute the threads. It gets tiring after a while. So as a filter it's effective. If it's not there then you don't have to read it. Like a spam filter.

There will rarely ever be 100% agreement for everything, so yours and Jen's feelings on the subject were expected from some members.

No matter what subject is brought up there will usually be those that feel different.

That's what is good about the society we live in. The right to agree or disagree
Or in this case, the right to use 'Ignore' or not.

Ahhhh Democracy :)

 But Jane was wrong about George Wickham wasn't she.
I've only got one person on my ignore list. But he kept pushing me and pushing me until I had no choice.

I was hoping the mods would put me on their ignore list, then I could get away with the odd risque joke and stuff - but alas it's not to be, I must be censured and censored!

I must not be rude to mods
