These would be great in a permanent installation. I can't imagine trailering such an instrument on Aussie dirt roads :)

We had the 3RF 22" binoculars up and running a few years ago at Coonabarabran- they are awaiting installation of a mod kit which will improve some of the shortcomings.

As these designs mean you look down into the eyepieces I personally prefer shorter focal length. I think a 16" F4 bino would be about the largest instrument that would fulfill all criteria for ease of use ( feet being on the ground most of the time would be a big one ) . A pair of 17mm Ethos permanently bolted in would be good too.

There is no way in the world that you'd be able to get that thing to a dark sky site without being stopped by every cop and ASIO agent along the way :lol:

Time to go cap in hand to the bank manager... the missus :P
