I'm considering buying a Long Perng newtonian focuer

Does anyone have any experience with this or similar?
I'll be using it for astrophotography with a DSLR.
Cheers

Well for that price maybe a Moonlite (http://www.focuser.com/cgi-bin/dman.cgi?page=category&plugin=dstore.cgi&category=3)is a better option. Basic Moonlite Newt focuser is $165 USD, tri knob is $265 and triknob witH lock..$290.
Ok, the tri knob with lock is a lot more..but its a I'm of the opnion if you are upgrading..then upgrade!
Thing is with the Moonlite you have many other options available to you if you later require..ie: integrated motor drive options.
Anyway..FWIW.;)

Just been on the Moonlite website.
It adds up to almost $400 for the triknob with lock plus the adapter plate and postage.
I'm very tempted but not sure if our budget will go that far. Its double what I was hoping to spend. But as far as never having to upgrade again it would make more sense.
What about JMI focusers as well?

Hi Chris,
For the price you are looking at for the Long Perng focuser, I would suggest a GSO from Bintel https://www.bintelshop.com.au/Product.aspx?ID=7207.
I dont see much diff in quality for the price.
If you want a great focuser pay the $400 and get the Moonlite or JMI.
I have a GSO on my newt generally have no issues with its operation with my DSLR.

Didn't count on the flange adaptor..but while the $Aust is high compared to $USD...now may never be a better time. With the ML you have many many accessories to choose and adapt.

You should be able to get Long Pern gear from Andrews in Sydney.

If you want a great focuser pay the $500+ and get the lightweight Feathertouch. It's a cut above the Moonlite and JMI.
The best of the cheapies is the dual speed GSO, but it's a long way short of a Feathertouch.

Just got approval from the chief financial controller
I'll go for the moonlight I reckon but I'll have a close look at the Feathertough as well.
What are the weight limit for the Moonlight / Feathertouch?

I suspect with a ML or FT you will one day change scopes..but keep the focuser!;)
